Maverick County Environmental and Public Health Association elects inaugural officers
The Maverick County Environmental and Public Health Association elected its inaugural officers on Tuesday, April 12, 2011, at its monthly meeting held at the Seco Mines Community Center.
Over 40 community citizens of all ages and walks of life attended the historic meeting.
Members elected Maverick County Precinct 3 Commissioner Jose Luis Rosales as President, Jose Reyna as Vice-President, Diana L. Sanchez as Secretary, and Juanita Martinez as Treasurer as its inaugural officers of the non-profit organization.
The Maverick County Environmental and Public Health Association is a non-profit organization dedicated to educating and protecting the citizens of Maverick County regarding environmental, including air, water, and natural resources, and public health issues affecting the community.
Maverick County Environmental and Public Health Association members attending the meeting unanimously expressed their opposition to the pending Dos Republicas Coal Partnership coal mining project on Elm Creek north of the City of Eagle Pass on Thompson Road.
The non-profit organization will have its next meeting on Thursday, April 28, 2011, at 7 P.M. at the Seco Mines Community Center located at 2989 Sanchez Avenue in Eagle Pass, and welcomes all citizens of the community concerned about the environment and/or public health to join the organization.
