Maverick County Solid Waste Authority General Manager Hector Daniel Chavez abruptly resigned as the Chief Executive Officer of the Maverick County Landfill on Tuesday, January 8, 2013. Attempts to contact Chavez by telephone to get a statement from him were not returned.
At a November 26, 2012, Maverick County Solid Waste Authority (MCSWA) Board of Directors meeting, Chavez brought to light the impending filling to capacity of Cell No. 1 ahead of schedule in February of 2013 as well as the need to pick up both commercial and residential trash of Maverick County residents living outside the City of Eagle Pass city limits.
Chavez proposed to his Board of Directors that the financing, design and construction of Cell No. 2 be financed by approving bonds. The estimated cost of Cell No. 2 is $3 Million.
At this November 26, 2012, meeting, Chavez advised his Board of Directors that Cell No. 1 had filled-up ahead of schedule due to numerous Eagle Ford Shale oil and gas companies who contracted with the MCSWA to dispose of their oil and gas waste in the Maverick County Landfill.
At a December 4, 2012, MCSWA Board of Directors meeting, Chavez advised his board of directors that Cell No. 1 could be used and extended until November of 2013 instead of February as previously told.
Attempts by the Eagle Pass Business Journal to speak with President Rolando Jasso and Legal Counsel Earl Herring were not returned.
