County Judge David Saucedo appoints Roberto Ruiz as Precinct 4 County Commissioner

Maverick County Judge David Saucedo appointed current Maverick County Treasurer Roberto Ruiz as the new successor Precinct 4 County Commissioner in lieu of former Commissioner Cesar Flores’ resignation on Friday, March 15, 2013, at a press conference held at the 293rd Judicial District Courtroom at the Maverick County Courthouse on March 15th.

This is the second time within a few months that Maverick County Judge David Saucedo has appointed Eagle Passan Roberto Ruiz to a Maverick County position. In October of 2012, County Judge Saucedo appointed Ruiz to the vacant Maverick County Treasurer position as a result of former County Treasurer Manuel Reyes’ resignation amidst the joint Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Texas Department of Public Safety (Texas Rangers) investigation of corruption and bribery regarding Maverick County construction contracts, resulting in the indictment and arrest by the FBI of three Maverick County Commissioners, including Rudy Heredia, Eliaz Maldonado, and Cesar Flores, and at least 10 other persons.

Ruiz advised the public at the March 15th announcement that he is resigning his current post of Maverick County Treasurer on Monday, March 18, 2013, to officially take his oath of office as the new County Commissioner of Precinct 4. Ruiz has previously served as County Commissioner of Precinct 4 for eight years from 1991 to 1998. Ruiz was elected in 1990 and defeated in 1998. Ruiz is a retired school teacher with 32 years experience.

Ruiz told the audience that he is honored to be tapped to serve the citizens of Precinct 4 and Maverick County as the new Precinct 4 County Commissioner. Ruiz noted that right now is the most difficult time facing Maverick County and the most embarrassing due to recent events. Ruiz touted his experience as a U.S. Marine, public school teacher, past County Commissioner, the Secretariat of Foreign Relations Mexicans in the United States Program, and serving on many local non-profit organizations board of directors as providing him extensive experience. Ruiz stated his goal is to reestablish harmony within County Commissioners Court and work towards tackling the many challenges and opportunities facing Maverick County. Ruiz acknowledged that credit is due to County Judge David Saucedo for doing an outstanding job during the most difficult moments of Maverick County.

County Judge Saucedo advised the public that the County Commissioners Court will have a special County Commissioners meeting on Monday, March 18, 2013, at 5 p.m. at the Maverick County Commissioners Courtroom located at 500 Quarry Street in Eagle Pass and invited the public to attend the special meeting which will have many “interesting” items on the agenda. County Judge Saucedo added that he hopes to announce the appointment of a new Maverick County Treasurer on Monday, March 18th to replace Ruiz.

Upon Ruiz’s resignation as Maverick County Treasurer, County Judge Saucedo has the authority to appoint a new County Treasurer in conjunction with the County Commissioners .
County Judge Saucedo informed the public that new Precinct 4 County Commissioner Roberto Ruiz will take his official oath of oath as County Commissioner on Monday, March 18th.

According to the 2010 United States Census, Maverick County has a population of over 54, 000 persons.
