The University Interscholastic League (U.I.L.) of Texas in Austin, Texas sanctioned Eagle Pass High School Eagles Head Baseball Coach Reynol Mendoza on Wednesday, August 14, 2013, after a public hearing concerning a complaint filed by Mission Sharyland High School Rattlers former Head Baseball Coach Barton Bickerton arising from the two teams May 17th Regional Quarter-Final Championship held at the Harlandale Independent School District’s Frank M. Tejada Sports Complex. Mission Sharyland former Head Baseball Coach Barton Bickerton filed an incident report, or a complaint, against Eagle Pass Eagles Head Baseball Coach Reynol Mendoza complaining about Coach Mendoza’s not following U.I.L. rules on the selection of the four umpires for both teams’ May 17th playoff game.
The U.I.L. Executive Committee sanctioned Eagles Head Baseball Coach Reynol Mendoza by suspending him for the first six games of the District 29-5A 2014 Baseball season and placed Mendoza on three years of probation as a result of discrepancies arising in the selection of the playoff umpires.
According to a press release issued by the UIL State Executive Committee on August 14, 2013, “Eagle Pass High School Coach Reynol Mendoza was issued a public reprimand and a three year probation for discrepancies in the acquisition of officials during the 2013 baseball playoffs, and Mendoza was also issued a suspension for the first six district games of the next baseball season.”
It is unknown as of press time if the Eagle Pass Independent School District has taken any action against Mendoza or whether it plans to take any action, if any.
Mission Sharyland Rattlers Head Baseball Coach Barton Bickerton has since resigned from Mission Sharyland and has accepted employment with the Mercedes Independent School District in the Rio Grande Valley.
