The Eagle Pass C.C. Winn High School Mavericks are hosting the Laredo United South High School Panthers in an important District 29-5A football game during 2013 Homecoming festivities at 7:30 P.M. on Friday, October 18th, at the Eagle Pass Independent School District’s Cozel Foster-Veterans Memorial Stadium.
The Mavericks, 1-5 overall in the season and 0-2 in District 29-5A, will battle the much improved Laredo United South Panthers, 4-3 overall in the season and 1-2 in District 29-5A, at home during Homecoming and will seek their first District 29-5A victory in 2013. The thundering Mavericks will be led on offense by quarterback Juan Elizondo and running back Deion Alonso while on defense the Mavericks are led by linebackers Steven Garcia, George Andrade, and Everardo De Los Santos. The Mavericks defensive backfield of Carlos Cerezo, Michael Villarreal, Rene Rodriguez, and Michael Santillano will be extremely busy as the Panthers operate under the West Coast Spread Offense, an aerial-based offensive attack, and will have to stop the Panthers from completing passes and intercept a few if they are to win the game.
The Laredo United South Panthers enter the Homecoming game with an impressive upset over the Del Rio Rams, 27-3, last week to notch their first District 29-5A win.
Mavericks first-year Head Football Coach Eric Villasenor stated the Mavericks have been improving each week of the season and expects the Mavericks to prevail over the Panthers.
The highlight of the football game will be the 2013 Homecoming coronation of the Mavericks’ Homecoming King and Queen during halftime festivities. Over 15 student clubs and organizations will be represented in the Mavericks Homecoming royalty court.
The loyal Maverick Nation fans and public are invited to attend the 2013 C.C. Winn Homecoming on Friday, October 18th. All C.C. Winn Mavericks alumni are welcome to attend the 2013 Homecoming festivities culminating with the Mavericks versus Panthers football game and the coronation of the Homecoming King and Queen during halftime.
