Lady Eagles to face Edinburg Vela Lady Saber Cats in Bi-District Championship

The District 29-5A Softball Champions, Eagle Pass High School Lady Eagles, will face the fourth-place team in District 30-5A, Edinburg Vela High School Lady Saber Cats, in the first round of the University Interscholastic League (UIL), Region IV, softball playoffs known as the Bi-District Championship next week in Laredo, Texas, announced Lady Eagles Head Coach Oscar Ruiz.
The Lady Eagles are playing a best of 3 game series against the Lady Saber Cats in a rematch of last year’s (2013) Bi-District Championship, which the Lady Eagles won in two straight games.
The first game is scheduled for Friday, April 25, 2014 at 7 P.M. at the Laredo Independent School District Zachary Sports Complex in Laredo. The second game of the series is scheduled for Saturday, April 26th, at 1 P.M. at the Laredo ISD Zachary Sports Complex and, the third game, if necessary, is scheduled for Saturday, April 26th, 30 minutes following game two.
The Lady Eagles will count on standout junior southpaw pitcher Krystal De La Cruz to muzzle the Lady Saber Cats batters and reserve pitcher Amanda Appleton will be ready if needed. The Lady Eagles offense is anchored by standout shortstop Sandra Mendoza and standout center fielder Monica Flores who will be expected to light up the scoreboard together with standout teammates catcher Claudia Cruz, first baseman Samantha Fuentes, second baseman Melanie Mendoza, third baseman Nina Flores, left fielder Krystal Perez, right fielder Vivian Ramirez, and designated hitter Dariela Velasquez.
The Lady Eagles defense will have to play errorless softball to keep the Lady Saber Cats off the base paths and scoring runs.
The Lady Eagles enter the Bi-District Championship series with an impressive 27-4 overall season record.
The Lady Eagles are under the leadership of Head Coach Oscar Ruiz.
