C. C. Winn Mavericks stampede Carrizo Springs Wildcats 30-13

The thundering Eagle Pass C. C. Winn High School Mavericks stampeded the Carrizo Springs High School Wildcats 30-13 on Friday, September 5, 2014, at Frank Carter Stadium in Carrizo Springs, Texas, earning their first win of the season and improving to 1-1 overall.
The Mavericks erupted for the first score of the game early in the first quarter on a patented drive culminating on a 10 yard touchdown run by Mavericks wide receiver Ramiro Valdez and place kicker Dante Valdez point after attempt was good for a 7-0 lead.
The home standing Wildcats answered right back with a touchdown of their own on a well engineered drive down Frank Carter Stadium turf resulting on a 10 yard touchdown keeper by Wildcats quarterback Jesse Rodriguez and the point after attempt was good, tying the game 7-7 each.
The Wildcats defense stymied the Mavericks patented ground game in the first quarter while their offense gained momentum scoring a second time in the first-half on a three yard touchdown run by tailback Leroy Cruz and the point after attempt was no good, giving the Wildcats a 13-7 lead against the stunned Mavericks.
The Mavericks coaching staff regrouped and refocused the Mavericks on the sidelines resulting in a lighting quick touchdown pass of 68 yards from quarterback Juan Elizondo to wide receiver Brandon Sanchez and the extra point was no good, tying the game at 13-13 each at half-time.
During half-time, the Mavericks coaching staff made offensive and defensive adjustments for the second-half of play, paying outstanding dividends for the Mavericks. The Mavericks players executed their coaching staff’s adjustments to perfection in the second-half.
In the third-quarter, the Mavericks offense engineered a 55 yard drive into the Wildcats end zone culminating on a 19 yard touchdown run by standout quarterback Juan Elizondo and Dante Valdez’s point after attempt was good, increasing the Mavericks lead 20-13.
The Mavericks defense led by linebackers Chris Aranda and Ramiro Valdez, defensive linemen Marcelino Olivarez, Abel Flores, and David Garza, and defensive backs Jonathan Villarreal, Michael Santillano, and Rene Auces shut out the Wildcats potent tandem of quarterback Jesse Rodriguez and tailback Leroy Cruz during the second-half.
The Mavericks added a field goal (three points) by place kicker Dante Valdez in the fourth period and another touchdown on a 24 yard sprint by standout tailback Deion Alonso with the extra point good to seal the hard-fought victory against the Carrizo Springs Wildcats, 30-13, and improving overall to 1-1 in the season.
The Mavericks next game is against their cross-town rivals, Eagle Pass Eagles, in the Ninth Annual City Championship Football Game on Friday, September 12th, at 7:30 P.M. at the EPISD Cozel Foster-Veterans Memorial Stadium, locally known as the Menudo Bowl by football fans.
