Nineteen pre-kindergarten and kindergarten young students at Rosita Valley Literacy Academy of the Eagle Pass Independent School District were involved in a bus accident (Bus No. 177) on Thursday, October 15, 2014, at approximately 9:29 A.M. at High Noon Street in Eagle Pass, Texas.
According to a preliminary report, the bus accident occurred due to driver inattention as the bus veered off the road striking a chain link fence in a private property, causing damages to the chain link fence and an Eagle Pass Independent School District bus (Bus No. 177) with the young students on board. Bus aide, Aide Rocha, was transported to the Fort Duncan Regional Medical Center for medical treatment.
The 19 young students were checked out by Eagle Pass Fire Department EMS Paramedics at the scene of the accident and later by Eagle Pass Independent School District nurses upon arriving on campus at Rosita Valley Literacy Academy. No students were transported to the hospital after the accident for medical treatment.
The accident caused great concerns with the young students parents regarding the safety and welfare of their children when they are placed in the hands of the Eagle Pass Independent School District bus drivers.
Eagle Pass Independent School District Transportation Director, Manuel Reyes, stated that the damaged bus (Bus No. 177) was towed to the EPISD Bus Mechanic Shop to be checked out by a mechanic supervisor.
