Eagle Pass Eagles crushed by Laredo United Longhorns 58-7 in District 29-6A action

The Eagle Pass High School Eagles were crushed by the District 29-6A co-leaders Laredo United High School Longhorns 58-7 in a key district football game on Thursday, October 23, 2014, in Laredo, Texas, falling to 4-4 overall in the season and 1-2 in District 29-6A standings.
The Eagles defense held the potent Longhorns silent on their first offensive possession of the game, forcing them to punt the football.
The Longhorns standout wide receiver and punt return specialist Eric Corona took the Eagles punt and quickly dashed down the sideline for a dazzling 68 yard punt return touchdown and the point after attempt was good, taking an early 7-0 lead with 7:33 minutes left in the first quarter.
The high octane Longhorns aerial offensive show quickly took the airwaves and connected on a quarterback Ignacio Tellez to wide receviver David Sanchez, Jr. 42 yard pass into the end zone and the extra point was good, giving the Longhorns a 14-0 lead over the Eagles with 2:45 minutes remaining in the first stanza.
The Longhorns defense clamped down on the Eagles offensive machine during the first half of play, keying on quarterback Ty Chisum.
Early in the second quarter, the Longhorns offensive prowess engineered a 59 yard touchdown drive, culminating on quarterback Ignacio Tellez 59 yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Eric Corona and the extra point attempt was good, extending the Longhorns lead 21-0 with 11:23 minutes before halftime.
Later in the second period, the Longhorns scored another touchdown on a 30 yard touchdown pass from Ignacio Tellez to Eric Corona and the point after attempt was good, increasing the Longhorns lead 28-0 with 3:14 minutes remaining before halftime.
The quick strike Longhorns offensive scheme connected on another long touchdown pass bomb from Tellez to David Sanchez, Jr. and the extra point was good, making it 35-0 at halftime.
In the third period, the Eagles received the second-half opening kick-off and orchestrated an 85 yard touchdown drive, culminating in a 38 yard pass from quarterback Ty Chisum to wide receiver Joseph Barrientos and the point after attempt was good, narrowing the score 35-7 with 9:43 minutes left in the third quarter. Although the Eagles fought and played their hearts out, this was their only score in the game while the Longhorns went on to score another 23 points in the second half to earn the key District 29-6A win by the final score of 58-7.
The Eagles next play the Laredo Alexander High School Bulldogs on Thursday, October 30, 2014, at 7 P.M. at the EPISD Cozel Foster-Veterans Memorial Stadium in a District 29-6A football game.
