Kickapoo Male Murdered Outside Reservation

A male adult member of the Kickapoo Tribe, Genaro Salazar, age 33, was found dead at a residence in Rosita Valley outside the Kickapoo Traditional Tribe of Texas Reservation on Monday, January 26, 2015, allegedly a victim of a homicide according to the preliminary investigation by the Maverick County Sheriff’s Department.
Another Kickapoo Tribe male adult, Ramiro Elizondo, age 35, has been arrested for alleged charges of homicide or murder, according to the Maverick County Sheriff’s Department.
Preliminary reports state that Maverick County Sheriff’s Department Deputies and Eagle Pass Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded to an emergency telephone call in Rosita Valley at approximately 3 A.M. for an injured male adult.
Upon arrival, Paramedics discovered a male adult, who was later identified as Genaro Salazar, a Kickapoo tribal member, with severe injuries to his body. Salazar succumbed to his injuries believed to have been a severe beating, according to the preliminary investigation.
Maverick County Justice of the Peace Kina Mancha pronounced Salazar deceased and ordered an autopsy of his body.
Upon further investigation, Maverick County Sheriff’s Department Deputies discovered that Salazar had been a victim of a severe beating and assault by another Kickapoo Tribal member.
The preliminary investigation found that alcohol was involved in the altercation as both persons involved in the tragic incident had been drinking together and led to a confrontation ending in the death of Salazar.
The Maverick County Sheriff’s Department arrested later that same day, Ramiro Elizondo, age 35, a Kickapoo Tribal member, for the homicide of Genaro Salazar and remains detained at the Tom Bowles Maverick County Detention Center without a bond as ordered by a magistrate judge.
The investigation is continuing by the Maverick County Sheriff’s Department and the Texas Rangers.
