Maverick County’s financial irregularities continue as there is an on-going investigation of a Maverick County Road and Bridge Fund Account Check which allegedly was altered by unknown person(s) other than the original person or entity to whom the check was made payable to and subsequently deposited or cashed in a financial institution by someone other than the original payee.
It is believed that the Maverick County Road and Bridge Fund Check was issued in 2015 to a person or entity which supplied materials to Maverick County’s Road and Bridge Department for certain public road and bridge projects and Maverick County promptly issued payment for these materials to the person or entity, but the check payee was altered or changed to the name of another person or entity and deposited or cashed by someone other than the original payee.
The alleged on-going investigation regarding the unlawful alteration of the Maverick County check is pending.
Maverick County remains under investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Texas Rangers after a joint investigation by them uncovered the largest public corruption, bribery, and kick-back scheme in the history of Maverick County during 2009 through 2012, resulting in over 20 indictments of Maverick County public officials, including four of five Maverick County Commissioners Court members such as former Commissioners Rudy Heredia, Cesar Flores, Eliaz Maldonado, and current Commissioner Jose Luis Rosales, and at least 19 or more pleas with many defendants receiving up to 10 years of federal prison except Rosales whose case remains pending.
