C. C. Winn Mavericks lassoed by Laredo LBJ Wolves 20-10 in 2015 Football Season Opener

The thundering Eagle Pass C. C. Winn High School Mavericks were lassoed by the visiting Laredo LBJ High School Wolves 20-10 in the 2015 high school football season opener on Friday, August 28, 2015, at the Eagle Pass Independent School District Cozel Foster-Veterans Memorial Football Stadium in Eagle Pass, Texas.
Billed as a classic match-up between father and son head coaches, Oki Villasenor of Laredo LBJ and Eric Villasenor of C. C. Winn, the mentor-father got the best of the protege-son in their third classic contest between the two U.S.-Mexico border high school teams. Oki Villasenor now leads the series 2-1 with LBJ’s win over the Mavericks on Friday, August 28th.
The C. C. Winn Mavericks scored a touchdown in the first quarter with the extra point being good while the visiting LBJ Wolves matched the Mavericks with a touchdown of their own and the point after attempt was good to tie the game 7 to 7 after the first quarter.
The Mavericks could only muster a field goal in the second quarter while the LBJ Wolves scored a touchdown to take a 13 to 10 lead at halftime.
In the third quarter, both the Mavericks and Wolves battled to a scoreless period.
The LBJ Wolves tallied a touchdown and an extra point in the fourth quarter to preserve a hard fought non-district victory over the Mavericks by a final score of 20 to 10.
The Mavericks fall to 0-1 in the season and will now prepare to play the fighting Carrizo Springs High School Wildcats on Friday, September 4, 2015, at 7:30 P.M. at home at the Eagle Pass Independent School District Cozel Foster-Veterans Memorial Football Stadium in Eagle Pass, Texas. The Mavericks game against the Carrizo Springs Wildcats has been designated as Parents Night.
