Eagle Pass High School Cross-Examination Debate Team Advances to State Championship

Eagle Pass High School Cross-Examination Debate Team of Jacob Ayers Briseno and Marlowe Zamora qualified for the 2015-2016 University Interscholastic League (UIL) 6A State Cross-Examination Debate Championship by placing second place at the District 29-6A UIL Cross-Examination Debate Meet held on January 29-30, 2016, at Laredo United South High School in Laredo, Texas, announced Dolores Rodriguez De La Cerda, Debate Team Sponsor and Coach at Eagle Pass High School.
Jacob Ayers Briseno and Marlowe Zamora will participate in the UIL 6A State Cross-Examination Debate Championship during March 14-19, 2016 at the University of Texas at Austin. They will compete among the top cross-examination debate teams in Class 6A throughout the state.
This year’s cross-examination debate topic is: “Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially curtail its domestic surveillance.” Ayers-Briseno and Zamora had to research this topic involving constitutional privacy legal issues and homeland security issues to develop and prepare their arguments and cross-examination questions to their adversaries.
The Texas Interscholastic League Foundation (TILF) will award over 600 scholarships totaling more than $1 million to this year’s winners at the state UIL Cross-Examination Debate Meet in Austin, Texas.
Joining Dolores Rodriguez De La Cerda as the Team Sponsor and Coach of Ayers-Briseno and Zamora is Adriana Castaneda.
Eagle Pass High School John Cox congratulated Ayers-Briseno and Zamora on their accomplishment and wishes them all the best of luck at the state UIL Cross-Examination Debate Championship Meet in Austin.
Both Ayers-Briseno and Zamora are seniors at Eagle Pass High School and are diligently practicing and preparing for the upcoming state UIL Cross-Examination Debate Championship Meet during March 14-19, 2016. Go Eagles, Win State!
