Johnny Muñoz announces Candidacy for Maverick County Sheriff
Johnny Muñoz has authorized the Eagle Pass Business Journal to announce his candidacy for the position of Maverick County Sheriff.
Retired Eagle Pass Police Department Detective Sergeant Johnny Muñoz has made a commitment to serve and provide new leadership for Maverick County. Married to Sandra Muñoz, they have three children, Michelle, Johnny, Justin and five grandchildren. Johnny Muñoz served the Eagle Pass Police Department for over 25 years. Graduated in 1987 from the Police Academy, Muñoz has accumulated over 2000 hours in law enforcement classes and has earned more than 123 state accredited certifications. Interested in the needs of the residents of Maverick County, Johnny Muñoz has been walking the streets to personally engage his community and become aware of the different needs in the many areas of Maverick County.
“I am aware of the varying needs from the citizens of Maverick County. Other than making the department efficient and up to date, I plan to make the Sheriff’s Department respected and accountable.”
More than 28 years in law enforcement, Johnny Muñoz is the best candidate for the Maverick County Sheriff’s position. Throughout these years, Muñoz worked with the DEA, FBI, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and the Texas Department of Transportation- Auto Burglary Theft Prevention Authority. Muñoz is also an active member of the Transborder International Police. He was the grant writer for the Auto Theft program where together with other fellow police officers were able to recover more than $15 million dollars in stolen vehicles and awarded another $15 million in grants. Johnny Muñoz has full knowledge of what it is to patrol the streets of Maverick County, and his vow to the Maverick County Sheriff’s Department is that he will patrol along with his fellow Deputy Sheriffs on January 1, 2017, his first official day as Maverick County Sheriff. Johnny Muñoz does not make promises; he has objectives for Maverick County.
Once elected into office, Johnny Muñoz will not replace staff. His objective is to create jobs, beginning with the re-opening of the Maverick County Detention Center at the Radar Base. He also plans to meet with the Texas Commission of Jail Standards and keep the Maverick County Jail (Tom Bowles Detention Center) in compliance with state jail standards. The repairs needed in the County Jail are more cost effective than the relocation of prisoners in other surrounding county jails.
Focused on the future and aware of the tremendous growth in Maverick County, Muñoz is eager to begin working for the citizens and to make a difference in the Sheriff’s Department. He will always be open to suggestions and listen to everybody and their needs. Johnny Muñoz offers new leadership for everyone in Maverick County.
“I humbly ask for your support and vote as Maverick County Sheriff in the March 1st Democratic Party Election, and on February 16th through 26th during the Early Voting Period to be held at the Eagle Pass Multi-Purpose Center. Thank you for your continuous support. I look forward to making a change and positive difference for everyone in Maverick County as your next Sheriff.”
