Eagle Pass Independent School District Board of Trustees Election set for November 8, 2016

The Eagle Pass Independent School District Board of Trustees held their regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, April, 12, 2016 in which they discussed and approved to hold the Board of Trustees Election on Tuesday, November 8, 2016. Four EPISD School Board Positions are up for election, including Places 1, 2, 6, and 7.
During discussion, EPISD School Board President Lupita Fuentes stated that the plan was to hold the local School Board election together with the county, state and federal elections on Tuesday, November 8, 2016.
All four EPISD School Board positions up for election on November 8, 2016 are for a four year term.
Place No. 1 is currently held by Eagle Pass Police Department Officer Humberto Torralba, Jr., whom defeated appointed Trustee Benjamin “Bennie” Rodriguez, Jr. and local educator Mashyell Calderon in November 2014.
Place No. 2 is currently held by Maverick County Sheriff’s Department Grant Writer Ignacio ‘Nacho’ Saucedo, whom defeated former EPISD Trustee Rodolfo Lopez in November 2012.
Place No. 6 is currently held by local dentist Dr. Hector Alvarez, whom defeated local attorney and former EPISD Trustee David Riojas and local Certified Public Accountant Jesus Casas in November 2012.
Place No.7 is currently held by retired educator Glenna Purcell, whom defeated retired educator Marcos Villalpando and former EPISD Trustee Tom Cary in November 2012.
The EPISD School Board also approved the amount of $25,000 to pay for the November 8, 2016 Board of Trustees Election.
Early voting will be from October 24, 2016 through November 4, 2016 from 8:00 A.M. to 5;00 P.M. at the City of Eagle Pass Multi-Purpose Center.
Election day voting on November 8, 2016 will run from 7:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. regular Maverick County precinct voting polls to be designated. Election polling sites will be announced at a future date.
The November 8, 2016 Board of Trustees Election date and schedule was unanimously approved by the EPISD School Board.
Persons interested in running for the EPISD School Board are encouraged to file their intent with the Secretary of the EPISD Board of Trustees or at the office of the EPISD Superintendent as early as July 23, 2016 and no later than August 22, 2016. You must be a resident and qualified voter of Maverick County, Texas in order to be eligible to run as a candidate.
