SWTJC offers free summer engineering camp
Uvalde, Texas – Southwest Texas Junior College will host a free summer engineering camp for incoming Associate of Science in Engineering Science (ASES) students, which will run from June 6 to July 7 on the Uvalde campus.
The college began offering an ASES degree during the fall 2015 semester, which articulates fully with engineering programs at major universities across the state.
The most notable pathway is with Angelo State University’s civil engineering program, however the college is anticipating similar pathways for other engineering disciplines with Texas A&M Kingsville and the University of Texas at San Antonio.
Graduates will be on par with native university junior students and can potentially graduate in four years time.
In addition to savings in time, the ASES degree has the potential of achieving a substantial savings in cost. In completing the pre-engineering courses at SWTJC, students can save upwards of $40,000 when compared to the cost of attendance at a public university.
Students will have the opportunity to earn college credit in pre-calculus and college physics while creating their own engineering projects.
High school juniors and graduating seniors are encouraged to apply by the application deadline of May 13.
The summer camp will help facilitate the transition of interested high school students to our engineering program; also improve pathways leading to a timely graduation.
Several information sessions have been scheduled. The first session will be in Del Rio on May 2 in the Sul Ross Auditorium, in Eagle Pass, May 3 in the Multipurpose Room on the SWTJC campus and on May 4 in Uvalde in the Matthews Student Center Ballroom.
