Eagle Pass Lady Eagles hold La Joya Lady Coyotes scoreless to sweep Bi-District Softball Championship

The Eagle Pass High School Lady Eagles held the La Joya High School Lady Coyotes scoreless in two consecutive games (11-0, 12-0) to sweep the UIL Region IV, Class 6A, Bi-District Softball Championship during April 29-30, 2016, at Laredo Independent School District Zachery Softball Complex in Laredo, Texas, advancing to the Area Championship during May 6-7, 2016 against the Weslaco High School Lady Panthers.
GAME 1
The 2016 District 29-6A Champions, Eagle Pass Lady Eagles, jumped early on the La Joya Lady Coyotes with four big runs in the first inning to take a 4-0 lead enroute to a 11-0 shut out victory in Game 1 of the Bi-District Softball Championship behind the standout pitching of freshman Kaitlin Galvan on Friday, April 29, 2016.
The Lady Eagles scored four runs in the second inning to take a commanding lead in the game, 8-0, and added three runs in the fourth inning to finish the scoring, 11-0, while Lady Eagle hurler Kaitlin Galvan limited the potent Lady Coyotes batters to only one hit to earn the win.
Leading the Lady Eagles offense were Amanda Appleton going 2 for 2 with 3 RBIs, Heather Ruiz batted 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs including an RBI triple, Janessa Garza hit 2 for 2 with one RBI, Leslie Martinez went 2 for 2, Sairah Gonzalez batted 2 for 3, Ana Aguado batted 1 for 2, Brooke Diaz went 1 for 2, and Miryam Salinas hit 1 for 1. The Lady Eagles belted a total of 13 base hits against the Lady Coyotes pitching.
GAME 2
The Lady Eagles offense continued their hot hitting streak from Game 1 into Game 2 scoring 10 runs in the first inning to take an insurmountable lead, 10-0, enroute to 12-0 shut out of the La Joya Lady Coyotes in Game 2 of the best of three Bi-District Championship series on Saturday, April 30, 2016.
Lady Eagle pitcher Kaitlin Galvan earned the win while standout freshman reliever Leenette Krezdorn hurled two innings to earn the save in Game 2, combining in limiting the Lady Coyotes to only two hits.
Standout Lady Eagle shortstop Heather Ruiz led the Lady Eagles offensive machine batting 4 for 4 with 4 RBIs, Janessa Garza went 1 for 2 with 2 RBIs, Nina Flores hit 1 for 2 with 1 RBI, Amanda Appleton batted 1 for 2 with 1 RBI, Leslie Martinez went 1 for 2 with 1 RBI, and Brooke Diaz hit 1 for 3 with 2 RBIs, totaling 10 base hits for the Lady Eagles offense.
The Lady Eagles captured the Bi-District Softball Championship in a dominant fashion by their dominant defense, pitching, and hitting over the La Joya Lady Coyotes.
The Eagle Pass Lady Eagles Softball Team include Heather Ruiz, Kaitlin Galvan, Sairah Gonzalez, Melanie Mendoza, Janessa Garza, Nina Flores, Amanda Appleton, Miryam Salinas, Anna Aguado, Izabell Ruiz, Lysandra Gonzalez, Leenette Krezdorn, Brooke Diaz, Leslie Martinez, Karina Ruiz, Kayla Sepulveda, Kayla Ochoa, and Elena De Alba.
The Eagle Pass Lady Eagles are under the helm of Head Coach Oscar Ruiz and Assistant Coaches Ricky Ruiz, Larissa Gonzalez, and Charlie Ruiz.
The Lady Eagles now face the Weslaco High School Lady Panthers for the Area Softball Championship during May 6-7, 2016 at the Laredo United Indepenedent School District Student Activity Complez in Laredo, Texas.
