Sam Houston Elementary Student Wins Electrical Safety Poster Contest
Local student Samantha Sanchez, of Sam Houston Elementary, recently tied for first place in the 4th– 6th grade division of the National Electrical Safety Month Poster Contest, sponsored annually by Rio Grande Electric Cooperative. All students from participating schools received certificates of participation, and individual school winners, like Samantha, had their posters judged against winners from other schools throughout the Co-op’s massive service territory, which spans 18 counties in Texas and 2 in New Mexico. The overall winners in each division received $50 gift cards, and will have their winning design incorporated into the design of over 21,000 book covers RGEC provides to schools annually to promote electrical safety. Just over 2,000 students participated in the contest this year. Samantha is pictured with her 4th grade teacher, Ms. Rosa Ochoa, and RGEC’s Journeyman Lineman Joe Cruz.
