Eagle Passan detained after Police Chase with possession of marijuana and undocumented aliens

Maverick County Sheriff’s Department announced that 20 year old Mario Alberto Rodriguez of Eagle Pass, Texas was detained on Saturday, July 23, 2016, after a police chase which started on FM 1021 and ended at the City of Eagle Pass Golf Course. Rodriguez was found to have possession of approximatetly 100 pounds of marijuana as well as three undocumented aliens, including a minor.
U.S. Border Patrol and Maverick County Sheriff’s Department attempted to do a traffic stop on Rodriguez’s automobile, but he fled and led law enforcement authorities on a police chase down FM 1021 (El Indio Highway) into the City of Eagle Pass Golf Course where he ditched the automobile in a lagoon.
Rodriguez and his three passengers were detained by U.S. Border Patrol, Maverick County Sheriff’s Department, and Eagle Pass Police Department officers and taken into custody.
The case is under investigation by U.S. Border Patrol. Rodriguez may be charged with several federal criminal offenses, but every person accused is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
