Mi Familia Vota on Donald Trump’s Acceptance Speech: ‘Mr. Trump, You Are Not Our Voice’
(Press Release) WASHINGTON, D.C – The following is a statement from Ben Monterroso, executive director of Mi Familia Vota, to Donald Trump’s acceptance speech at the Republican convention.
“During tonight’s speech, Mr. Trump continued his verbal and ideological assault against the Latino and immigrant communities. He is making scapegoats out of our families and the Latino/immigrant population. This is not leadership and it is not what the American people deserve.
“Trump and the Republican Party seem to forget that Latino immigrants are also part of this nation, and alienating the largest growing minority is not a smart political move. The road to the White House is through the Latino barrios he so publicly scorns.
“Latino voters are listening, organizing, and mobilizing. Our community will defend itself with the best tool available to every American: Our vote. Twenty years ago, after Proposition 187, one of the harshest anti-immigrant measures in the country, we changed California. Today, after Senate Bill 1070, which requires local law enforcement to check someone’s immigration status when detained or under reasonable suspicion, we are changing Arizona.
“Come November, we will respond to Republican’s attacks on the well-being of our families. Come November, we will change the country.
