Three Maverick County Hospital District Board of Directors’ Positions to be on November 8th Election, Candidate Registration Period Opens

Three of the five Maverick County Hospital District Board of Directors’ positions will be up for election on the November 8, 2016 Election.  The three MCHD Board of Directors’ positions  scheduled for election on the November 8th ballot are those currently held by Board President Juan Manuel “Chuco” Farias, Board Secretary and Treasurer Humberto Duran, Jr., and Trustee Ricardo E. Calderon.

The MCHD Board of Directors currently only has four members as a replacement for former Board President Joaquin L. Rodriguez, whom resigned in 2015, has not been appointed because no applicant has received the unanimous consent of the current local hospital district Board as required by its bylaws and state law.  The vacant fifth Board of Director position can not be placed on the November 8th Election due to the District’s bylaws and state statue which created the local entity, except by a unanimous consent of the existing Board members.  The vacant fifth Board position is not scheduled for election until November 2018.

Previous attempts by one or more Board members to nominate a replacement for the fifth seat on the board have been voted against by two Board members.

Any Maverick County citizen who is a registered voter may apply as a candidate for the MCHD Board of Directors three positions scheduled for election on the November 8th ballot by contacting or visiting the MCHD located at 3406 Bob Rogers Drive in Eagle Pass, Texas during 8 A.M. to 5 P.M., Telephone (830) 757-4990.   The candidate registration period opened on Saturday, July 23, 2016 and runs through Monday, August 22, 2016.

The top three candidates with the most votes are elected to the MCHD Board of Directors in the November 8th Election.

As of press time, it is unknown if any of the current Board members whose positions are up for election will seek re-election to the local hospital district Board.

Maverick County citizens are invited and encouraged to seek a Board of Director position on the MCHD Board by registering as a candidate between July 23rd through August 22nd at the District’s office, 3406 Bob Rogers Drive, in Eagle Pass.
