Border Patrol Agents Rescue Honduran Juvenile from Drowning in the Rio Grande
Eagle Pass, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Eagle Pass Station Marine Unit, rescued a male undocumented juvenile immigrant from drowning in the Rio Grande River.
“This is another excellent example of our agents’ expertise and vigilance in preventing a possible deadly situation,” said Del Rio Sector Acting Chief Patrol Agent Matthew J. Hudak. “I am proud of our agents and the dedication demonstrated daily in support of the Border Patrol’s mission.”
On Aug. 23, at approximately 4:45 p.m., agents from the Eagle Pass Station, conducting linewatch operations along the Rio Grande River, observed a male subject struggling to stay above water. The agents were unable reach the subject with rescue devices due to the distance from the river bank. Agents immediately notified the Border Patrol Marine unit, who quickly responded to the area and reached the subject’s location, safely pulling him onto the boat. The subject was determined to be a 16-year-old Honduran national with no legal status to remain in the United States.
The 16-year-old Honduran juvenile sustained no injuries and required no medical attention. He was then transported to the Eagle Pass South Station for processing, per CBP guidelines.
