Eagle Pass Retail Merchants report counterfeit $20 Bills being circulated

Eagle Pass, Texas downtown retail merchants report being paid with counterfeited and fake $20 U.S. Dollar bills during the last few months, announced Eagle Pass Police Chief Alberto Guajardo. The use of the counterfeited $20 U.S. Dollar bills has been reported to the Eagle Pass Police Department, Federal Reserve Bank, local banking institutions, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
All retail businesses are alerted to check the currency, particularly $20 U.S. Dollar bills, when receiving payment from customers.
According to preliminary investigations, the counterfeited $20 U.S. Dollar bills are coming from Mexican retail customers who report exchanging money at Mexican Money Exchange Houses, particularly in Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico.
One local downtown retail business reported receiving at least five counterfeited $20 U.S. Dollar bills during the last month.
Eagle Pass Police Chief Alberto Guajardo requested that any local business receiving a counterfeited $20 U.S. Dollar bill or other currency to please report it to the Eagle Pass Police Department at (830) 773-9044.
