The Maverick County Hospital District Board of Directors unanimously appointed retired educator and administrator Adolfo “Fito” Olivares, Jr. to fill the vacant Board of Directors position at their regular meeting held on Tuesday, September 27, 2016 in Eagle Pass, Texas.
Olivares’ appointment to the Maverick County Hospital District Board of Directors culminates a one year and five months search for a replacement for former Board of Director Joaquin L. Rodriguez, who resigned from his position while serving as Chairman of the Board of Directors on May 26, 2015.
Maverick County Hospital District Board member Ricardo E. Calderon made the motion to appoint Adolfo Olivares, Jr. to the vacant Board of Director position in open session after the Board took a brief Executive Session to consult and review with General Counsel Alex Fuller the four applicants for the vacant position. Board Secretary and Treasurer Humberto Duran seconded Calderon’s motion and the Board unanimously approved the motion, including Board Chairman Juan Manuel “Chuco” Farias and Board Vice-Chairman Ronald Hixson.
Olivares served over 31 years as a school principal and teacher with the Eagle Pass Independent School District before retiring. Prior to becoming an educator, Olivares served as Mayor Pro-Tem of the City of Eagle Pass City Council, Assistant City Manager of the City of Eagle Pass, and as Parks and Recreation Director of the City of Eagle Pass. Other applicants considered for the vacant Board of Director position include Dr. Maria L. Forth, Luis Alfonso Ruiz, and Jaqueline Cabrales, R.N.
Olivares’ appointment will now bring the Maverick County Hospital District Board of Directors to full membership with five Board of Directors. Olivares’ term will run until November of 2018.
