Del Rio Sector Border Patrol Agents Seize 1,200 lbs of Narcotics
(Press Release) DEL RIO, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol agents working in the Del Rio Sector seized more than 1,200 pounds of narcotics, valued over $967,920 in four different incidents, apprehending a total of eight subjects – all from the Mexican state of Michoacan.
“The agents of Del Rio Sector are committed to disrupting the flow of illegal narcotics into the country,” said Del Rio Sector Acting Chief Patrol Agent Matthew Hudak. “These seizures are direct results of the hard work and vigilance by our agents.”
On Sep. 26, at approximately 9 a.m., agents from the Eagle Pass Border Patrol Station, conducting linewatch operations, encountered foot sign near Eagle Pass. After searching the area on foot, agents discovered two male subjects and seven abandoned military-style duffel bags containing over 409 pounds of marijuana, worth an estimated $327,200. The subjects were found to have carpet glued to the bottoms of their shoes, a common tactic for avoiding detection. One of the subjects, a 25-year-old Mexican national, was turned over to agents from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration for federal prosecution. The other subject, a juvenile, was released to the Mexican consul.
On Sep. 27, at approximately 9 a.m., agents from the Eagle Pass Border Patrol Station, conducting linewatch operations, responded to suspicious activity near Eagle Pass. After searching the area on foot, agents discovered four abandoned military-style duffel bags containing over 232 pounds of marijuana, worth an estimated $185,760.
On Oct. 2, at approximately 8 a.m., agents from the Uvalde Border Patrol Station, patrolling on foot near Highway 57 and Farm to Market Road 481, encountered foot sign. While searching the area, agents discovered five subjects each carrying a military-style duffel bag containing a total of 226 pounds of marijuana, worth an estimated $181,040. Agents apprehended five male subjects, all from Mexico, ranging in age from 19 to 37.
On Oct. 19, at approximately 8 p.m., agents from the Uvalde Border Patrol Station attempted to stop a Ford F-250 pickup truck near Farm to Market Road 1025 south of Batesville. As agents followed the vehicle, it abruptly stopped and the driver and occupants abandoned the pickup next to a ranch fence on the side of FM 187. Agents apprehended one subject, a 26-year-old Mexican national. Inspection of the vehicle revealed over 342 pounds of marijuana, worth an estimated $273,920.
Unless otherwise noted, all apprehended subjects and contraband were turned over to DEA.
