Eagle Pass C. C. Winn Mavericks shut out by Richmond Foster Falcons 55-0 in Regional Semi-Finals Championship, finish 10-3 in Historic Season

The thundering Eagle Pass C. C. Winn High School Mavericks historical 2016 football season came to an end at the University Interscholastic League (UIL) 5A, Region IV, Division I, Regional Semi-Finals Championship game as the Richmond Foster High School Falcons shut out the Mavericks 55-0 on Friday, November 25, 2016, at Jerry Comalander Stadium in San Antonio, Texas, culminating a historical and outstanding football season with the school’s first-ever District Co-Championship, Bi-District Championship, and Area Championship under Head Coach Eric Villasenor.
Over 1,800 Mavericks football aficionados from Eagle Pass and South Texas attended the Regional Semi-Finals Grid Iron Game in San Antonio and gave the valiant Mavericks a standing ovation at the end of the game in appreciation of their dedication, spirit, and history-making 2016 football season.
The Richmond Foster Falcons took the first possession of the game and quickly scored on a 54 yard run by their standout running back Quinton Oliver who weaved and eluded Maverick tacklers into the end zone and the point after attempt was good to give the Falcons an early 7-0 lead with 10:52 minutes remaining in the first quarter, which they never relinquished.
The Mavericks started their first possession at their own 12 yard line, but the Falcons defense stifled the Mavs offense forcing them to punt.
In the ensuing possession, the Falcons marched down the Comalander Stadium turf and punched the football into the Mavericks end zone on a 20 yard touchdown pass from standout Falcons quarterback Alex Ramart to wide receiver Lane Eldridge and the point after attmept was good to extend the lead to 14-0 with 6:25 minutes left in the first quarter.
The Mavericks potent offense was stymied by the Falcons defense on their next possession, forcing them to punt.
On their third possession in the first quarter, the Falcons engineered a 60 yard touchdown drive, culminating with a 12 yard run into the Mavericks end zone by Falcons running back Quinton Oliver and the extra point attmept failed to make it 20-0 with 1:14 minutes remaining in the first quarter.
The Mavericks offense struggled all game as the Falcons defense dominated the line of scrimmage, shutting out the Mavericks from scoring for the first time all season. Mavericks standout running Danny Rios back enjoyed some success running the football early in the game.
The Mavericks drove down to the Falcons 9 yard line with 5:12 minutes in the second quarter, but the Falcon safety Isaiah Richardson intercepted a pass from Mavericks quarterback Julio Ruiz intended for tight end Jose Rodriguez in the end zone and returned it to the Falcons 17 yard line to end the Mavs scoring threat.
The Falcons added two more touchdowns before halftime, one on an 11 yard touchdown pass from quarterback Alex Ramart to wide receiver Isaiah Eaglin and a second touchdown pass from quarterback Alex Ramart to wide receiver Chandler Speights and both point after attempts were good to take a commanding 34-0 lead at Halftime.
The thunder and lighting Mavericks defense did manage to stop the potent Falcons offense in the third quarter on a fourth down and five yards (goal) at the Mavs 4 yard line with 5:07 minutes left in the quarter. Mavericks standout linebacker Ernesto Villasenor, defensive end Carlos Tijerina and Jacob Guerra, and safety Rene Auces played well.
The Falcons added three touchdowns in the second half to seal the Regional Semi-Finals Championship, including two dazzling touchdown runs of 3 yards and 60 yards by Falcons standout running back Alec Harris and one touchdown pass and all three point after attempts were good to light up the scoreboard 55-0 as the final score.
The Mavericks played valiantly and courageously, but this was just not their night as the Falcons athleticism and speed prevailed in the game.
The Maverick finish their 2016 football season with a school best record of 10-3 and the previous achievements described earlier. Without a doubt, the 2016 Mavericks Football Team believed in Head Coach Eric Villasenor’s system and executed it to an impressive and historic season, establishing a new winning football tradition at C. C. Winn High School.
