A total of five candidates registered for the City of Eagle Pass, Texas Mayor and City Council Election scheduled for May 6, 2017, announced City Secretary Imelda Rodriguez.
Incumbent Mayor Ramsey English Cantu registered for re-election and local veteran newsman Hector Munoz-Mijares registered as candidate for the Mayor’s position, too. Only two candidates registered for the Mayor’s race.
For City Council Place 2, incumbent City Councilman and Mayor Pro-Tem Rudy Villalpando is unopposed for re-election and is guaranteed to be re-elected again for another term on May 6th.
For City Council Place 4, incumbent City Councilman Luis E. Sifuentes registered for re-election and drew an opponent in Romeo Fernandez in the May 6th Election.
Although the May 6th Mayor and City Council Election is important to Eagle Pass residents, apathy seemed to rule the day as only five candidates registered for the election on May 6th with the Mayor’s and City Council Place 4 races being contested and the City Council Place 2 race going unopposed.
