Early Voting Continues in Eagle Pass Independent School District Tax Ratification Election

The Early Voting Period for the Eagle Pass Independent School District’s Tax Ratification Election continues this Saturday, May 20, 2017, at the City of Eagle Pass Mulit-Purpose Center located at 483 S. Adams Street from 8 A.M. to 5 P.M. and on Monday and Tuesday, May 22nd and 23rd, respectively.
All registered Maverick County voters are encouraged to come out and participate in democracy by casting their ballots on this key tax ratification election which seeks a 2.5 cents tax rate increase in the Eagle Pass Independent School District ad valorem taxes from its current $1.15543 to the proposed $1.18043 per $100 valuation.
On May 6, 2017, Maverick County voters rejected Maverick County’s $8.5 Million Bond referendum as local citizens expressed concerns about public government running high debt loads and increasing tax rates.
Currently, Maverick County real property owners are receiving their 2017 Maverick County Appraisal District’s appraisals with a significant increase in values, causing that property owners have to pay higher city, county, school, and hospital district property taxes in 2017.
All registered voters are encouraged to vote in this EPISD tax ratification election either through the Early Voting Period or on Election Day, Saturday, May 27, 2017, at designated polling places.
