Eagle Pass Border Patrol Agents Arrest Wanted Sex Offender
EAGLE PASS, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Highway 57 Checkpoint apprehended a convicted sex offender with a warrant out for his arrest.
“Our agents work tirelessly to protect our nation from criminals seeking to illegally enter our communites and potentially do harm,” said Del Rio Sector Deputy Chief Patrol Agent Matthew J. Hudak. “Checkpoints play a valuable role in accomplishing our border security mission and I’m thankful for the support from the community.”
On June 21, Eagle Pass South Station agents assigned to the Highway 57 Checkpoint inspected the occupants of a commercial travel van. One of the passengers, Francisco Diaz Perez, was arrested for being illegally present in the United States and was transported to the Eagle Pass South Station for processing.
At the station, records checks revealed that Diaz Perez, 69, was a Mexican citizen who had been previously convicted for sexual assault of a child, a class 3 felony, in Greeley, Colorado. He was sentenced to 18 months incarceration. In addition, Diaz Perez had an active probation violation warrant for his arrest.
Diaz Perez will be charged with 8 USC § 1326 (a) (1) – illegal re-entry after deportation. Upon completion of his sentence, he will be extradited to Colorado to face state charges prior to being removed from the United States.
The Del Rio Border Patrol Sector is part of the Joint Task Force-West South Texas Corridor, which leverages federal, state and local resources to combat transnational criminal organizations.
