The legendary Dave Campbell’s Texas Football 2017 Magazine predicts the 2016 District 29-5A Eagle Pass C. C. Winn High School Thundering Mavericks will finish second in District 29-5A during the 2017 Texas High School Football Season behind 2016 District Co-Champion Floresville High School Tigers.
Following the historic 2016 Football Season that saw the C. C. Winn Mavericks win the District 29-5A Co-Championship with Floresville Tigers, Bi-District Championship, Area Championship, and Regional Semi-Finalist, Dave Campbell’s Texas Football analysts predict that the thundering Mavericks will battle the Floresville Tigers for District 29-5A Football supremacy once again during 2017. In a close call, Dave Campbell’s Texas Football picks the Floresville Tigers to finish in first place during 2017 in District 29-5A with the Mavericks right behind their tails.
Picked to finish third in District 29-5A during 2017 are the San Antonio Harlandale High School Indians followed by the Uvalde High School Coyotes in fourth place, the San Antonio Southside High School Cardinals in fifth place, and the San Antonio McCollum High School Cowboys in sixth place.
“District 29-5A Football in 2017 will be highly competitive with any of the six teams capable of defeating any team on any given Friday Night,” said C. C. Winn Mavericks Head Football Coach Eric Villasenor. “The District Championship will more than likely be decided until the final week of the 2017 season just like last year,” added Villasenor.
For 2017, the Winn Mavericks are expected to have 22 returning letterman from the break out 2016 team with two returning starters on both offense and defense. The Mavericks will seek to improve their best record of 10-3 in school history obtained during 2016.
Among the Mavericks defensive players to watch include bone crushing Linebackers Ernesto Villasenor and Miguel De Los Santos, cornerbacks Domingo Duran and Brandon Wheeler, defensive end Ricardo Morales, defensive tackles Alejandro Ontiveros and Martin Rodriguez, safety Mariano Hernandez, linebacker Jared Roiz, and other promising junior varsity players moving up.
On offense, the Mavericks will count on Quarterbacks Antonio Flores and Ethan Johnston, running back Gustavo Cabrera, wide receivers Justis Roiz and Jose Blanco, offensive linemen Erik Del Bosque and Sebastian Lopez, and other promising junior varsity players moving up.
Head Coach Eric Villasenor and staff certainly have a tough act to follow after last year’s historic, record-breaking season, but will definitely have the thundering Mavericks ready for the highly competitive 2017 season.
The Winn Mavericks will officially kick-off the 2017 Football Season at home against the Crystal City High School Javelinas on Friday, September 1, 2017, at 7:30 P.M.
All Maverick Nation aficionados are encouraged to support the thundering Mavericks during the 2017 Football Season. Go Mavericks Go!
