Texas State Representative Poncho Nevarez announced his intention to seek re-election to the Texas House of Representatives District 74 for a fourth consecutive term.
Nevarez noted that he was successful in drafting and approving several legislative bills during the 85th Legislature to assist and address District 74 constituents. Nevarez stated that he had passed a bill allowing the Kickapoo Traditional Tribe of Texas to hunt antler-less deer year round based on religious grounds, a bill making it easier to fill a Board of Directors vacancy for the Maverick County Hospital District, a bill allowing the City of Marfa, Texas to use part of their hotel room occupancy tax for an airport, a bill clarifying the laws governing the Jeff Davis Underground Water District, and a bill preventing water companies from charging school districts higher rates than their commercial rates.
Nevarez vowed to continue representing District 74 in salient issues such as contesting the Texas Senate Bill 4 “Sanctuary” City, fight against discriminatory Voter ID Laws, and passing school finance reform that will equitably fund public education in Texas.
Nevarez is a Democrat from Eagle Pass, Texas and was unopposed during his past two bids for re-election.
Nevarez will be attending the Special Session called by Texas Governor Gregg Abbott in July of 2017 after the closure of the 85th Texas Legislature Session.
