Eagle Pass City Council Approves 2017 Tax Year Proposed Rate of $0.542489 Per $100 Valuation

The Eagle Pass City Council approved a proposed 2017 Tax Year Rate of $0.542489 per $100 property valuation at their Tuesday, August 1, 2017 regular meeting.
City of Eagle Pass Tax Assessor Collector Maria D. Galvan presented City Council with the proposed 2017 tax rate, the preceding year’s tax rate, the effective tax rate, and the rollback tax rate in order to approve one of them in order to set the the dates to hold public hearings for the adoption of the 2017 tax rate for the City of Eagle Pass.
Galvan stated that the proposed 2017 tax rate is $0.54017 per $100 valuation with same rate for the preceding year’s tax rate. She added that the proposed 2017 effective tax rate is $0.542489 per $100 valuation, while the proposed 2017 rollback tax rate is $0.571901 per $100 valuation.
Both Galvan and Jesus Rodriguez, City Business and Finance Director, recommended to City Council that they approve the proposed 2017 tax rate listed as the effective tax rate of $0.542489 per $100 valuation, a rate slightly lower than the preceding year’s tax rate of $0.546017 per $100 valuation. At this effective tax rate, the City of Eagle Pass will raise a total of $7,954,832 (Million), a tax levy increase of $116,313 from last year due to an increased tax roll for 2017.
The City Council approved the recommendation to set the proposed 2017 tax rate for the City of Eagle Pass at $0.542489 per $100 valuation with public hearings scheduled for September 5th and September 12th with a final adoption hearing scheduled for September 17th at 5:30 P.M. at City Council Chambers, 100 South Monroe Street, Eagle Pass, Texas.
