Eagle Pass Winn Lady Mavericks Volleyball Win Third Place at Edgewood Tournament

The thundering Eagle Pass C. C. Winn High School Lady Mavericks Volleyball Team won third place at the San Antonio Edgewood Independent School District Volleyball Tournament held during August 10-12, 2017 in San Antonio, Texas, with a five wins and three loss overall tournament record, announced Lady Mavericks Head Coach Corina Escontrias.
The Lady Mavericks opened the Edgewood ISD Volleyball Invitational Tournament against the San Antonio Memorial Lady Minutemen on Thursday, August 1oth, falling in three sets 22-25, 25-16, and 9-15 despite a valiant rally effort by the Lady Mavericks.
In the second game on August 10th, the Lady Mavericks bounced back and defeated the San Antonio Kennedy Lady Rockets in two straight sets 25-9 and 25-17 to earn the win.
In the third game on August 10th, the Lady Mavericks defeated YWLA in three sets 25-18, 16-25, and 15-6 to earn the win.
On Friday, August 11th, the Lady Mavericks rallied to defeat the San Antonio Lanier Lady Voks in three sets 19-25, 25-16, and 15-6 to earn the victory.
In their fifth game on August 11th, the Lady Mavericks swept the Hidalgo team in two straight sets 25-17 and 22-13 to claim the win.
In their sixth tournament game on August 11th, the Lady Mavericks fell to the San Antonio Lady Cherokees in two straight sets 15-25 and 24-26.
On Saturday, August 12th, the Lady Mavericks stumbled against Brooks Academy falling in two straight sets 24-26 and 13-25 in the Semi-Finals Championship game.
In the Third Place game on August 12th, the Lady Mavericks avenged their earlier tournament loss to Sam Houston defeating the Lady Cherokees in two straight sets 25-17 and 25-14 to win Third Place in the 2017 Edgewood Volleyball Invitational Tournament.
Two Lady Mavericks were named to the All-Tournament Team for their outstanding play in the eight game tournament, specifically Kayla Cantu and Martha Martinez.
Leading the Lady Mavericks were Kayla Cantu with 7 aces, 7 kills, and 147 digs on defense; Martha Martinez had 1 Ace, 23 kills, 6 blocks, and 13 digs; Alexa Ibarra had 11 kills and 6 blocks; Jasmin Ballones had 39 digs; Jasmin Fuentes had 1 Ace, 1 Kill, and 11 digs; Kimberly Rodriguez had 7 Aces, 7 Kills, 8 Blocks, and 10 digs; Martha Garcia had 4 Aces, 13 kills, 1 block, and 23 digs; Annette Jimenez had 1 Ace and 37 digs; Joanna Pena had 15 kills and 3 blocks, Reyna De Los Santos had 10 kills and 6 blocks; Angela Suke had 25 digs; and Yahaira Ortega had 3 Aces and 6 kills.
The Lady Mavericks next play cross-town rival Eagle Pass Lady Eagles on Wednesday, August 16th, at 6 P.M. (JV) and 7 P.M. (Varsity) at the Eagle Pass ISD Student Activity Center Gymansium.
