Loose Cattle Cause Several Accidents on U.S. Highway 277 North in Maverick County

Several loose cattle caused two automobiles and an 18 wheeler tractor-trailer to collide with the livestock on U.S. Highway 277 North about eight miles north of Eagle Pass, Texas on Tuesday, August 15, 2017, at approximately 7 A.M., reported Maverick County Sheriff’s Department.
Two automobiles collided with the loose cattle, causing one vehicle to roll over as a result of the impact with the heavy livestock. Two ambulances were summoned to the scene of the accident to transport the injured people to the Fort Duncan Regional Medical Center for medical treatment of their injuries.
In a separate accident, an 18 wheeler tractor-trailer also hit some of the loose cattle stranded on U.S. Highway 277 North causing damage to the tractor-trailer. The driver of the 18 wheeler sustained minor injuries.
Maverick County Sheriff’s Department and Texas Department of Public Safety officers arrived at the scene of the accident to provide assistance, handle traffic, and investigate the three accidents with the loose cattle. Investigators are seeking to determine who is the owner of the cattle to assess liability to for the accident.
U.S. Highway 277 North was closed for approximately one and a half hours to traffic between Eagle Pass and Del Rio, Texas while first responders investigated the multiple accidents with the cattle.
The case remains under investigation.
