Sen. Carlos Uresti: Statement on the passage of Senate Bill 6 providing annexation reform
(Press Release) “I am supportive of the compromise annexation reform passed by the legislature containing suitable protections for our military bases. Protecting the three major military installations in Senate District 19, while providing a mechanism to allow residents a vote on annexation has been my objective, and I am pleased to see the final product reflects both priorities.
“Residents, such as those who reside in Alamo Ranch in District 19, will have the right to vote on whether or not their property is annexed, while cities will have the ability to protect military installations within a five mile buffer. These safeguards are important to Del Rio, and San Antonio, whose economies benefit immensely from their longstanding relationships with our military.” said Senator Carlos Uresti
Sen. Uresti represents Senate District 19, which covers more than 35,000 square miles and contains all or part of 17 counties, two international ports of entry, eleven state parks, 51 school districts, 2700 miles of highways, and more than 23,000 producing oil and gas wells in both the Eagle Ford Shale and Permian Basin. The district is larger than 12 states and 82 Nations, and contains over one third of the Texas-Mexico border. Sen. Uresti is proud to serve on the Finance, Health & Human Services, Education, and Veteran Affairs & Border Security Committees.
