Maverick County Hospital District Board Approves 2017-2018 Tax Rate

The Maverick County Hospital District (MCHD) Board of Directors approved the District’s proposed 2017-2018 Tax Rate of $0.129864 per $100 property value at its special meeting held on Thursday, September 14, 2017.
Maverick County Hospital District Board Chairman Adolfo “Fito” Olivares called the meeting to order and asked if there were any citizens who wished to speak during the Visitors Recognition of the Agenda on the proposed 2017-2018 Tax Rate. There was no citizen present who wished to speak during the Visitors Recognition concerning the proposed 2017-2018 Tax Rate.
Board Chairman Olivares then proceeded to call Agenda Item No. 5 calling for the discussion with possible action to approve the tax rate for the 2017-2018 physical (sic) year. The Hospital District Board unanimously approved the tax rate of $0.129864 per $100 property value for the 2017-2018 Fiscal Year.
The newly adopted tax rate for 2017-2018 is a 3.98 cents per $100 property value increase from last year’s tax rate of $0.09 per $100 property value. The 3.98 cents per $100 property value tax rate increase approved for 2017-2018 is the highest tax rate increase for the Maverick County Hospital District in over 10 years.
Also increasing in 2017-2018 is the Operating Budget of the Maverick County Hospital District from last year’s $8,052,027 (Million) budget to the new 2017-2018 budget of $12,235,369 (Million), a whopping $4,183,342 (Million) increase. The $4,183,342 (Million) budget increase for 2017-2018 is the highest single year budget increase in over 15 years.
The Maverick County Hospital District Board is composed of Adolfo “Fito” Olivares, Chairman, Jesus Casas, Vice-Chairman, Rebecca “Becky” Robinson, Secretary-Treasurer, Juan Manuel “Chuco” Farias, and Ronald Hixson.
