BEDC Labor Workforce Week in Eagle Pass
(Press Release) The City of Eagle Pass Business & Economic Development Committee (BEDC) has been busy over the last several months working to create opportunities for local and regional economic growth.
The BEDC, in collaboration with Middle Rio Grande Development Council and Workforce Solutions Middle Rio Grande, is holding two major events in Eagle Pass this week. Texas Workforce Commissioner on Labor Julian Alvarez will participate in a Skills-Training Workshop being held by the BEDC Labor Workforce & Training Sub-Committee on Friday, October 20, from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m., at the International Center for Trade.
At the workshop, Commissioner Alvarez will highlight several ongoing job skills training programs available through the Texas Workforce Commission. Many of the TWC programs help communities prepare labor workforce, which make them more competitive to high-tech industry.
“I think it’s a great opportunity and a wise investment to train our residents for higher tech jobs, which ultimately pay higher-wages,” says Eagle Pass City Manager Art Rodriguez. Rodriguez has been a staunch supporter of the work of the BEDC and the leadership under its chairman, Mr. Morris Libson. Libson oversees the BEDC and works with 10 standing Sub-Committees, which meet monthly.
The Eagle Pass BEDC will also hold a Retail Career & Job Fair at the Mall de las Aguilas on Friday, October 20, 2017, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Labor Workforce & Training Sub-Committee Chair Terri Patlan-Contreras and Executive Labor Mentoring (ELM) Sub-Committee Chair Pat Saucedo, who also is the General Manager for the mall, have been working aggressively to recruit over a dozen local retailers to be on-hand to recruit seasonal employees for the upcoming holiday season. TWC Commissioner Julian Alvarez will visit the fair immediately after the workshop.
“The City Council and I stand behind the efforts of all the dedicated volunteers of the Eagle Pass BEDC, especially as we work towards greater economic prosperity of our great city and the region,” says Eagle Pass Mayor Ramsey English-Cantu.
The Eagle Pass BEDC has several projects in the works, which will be announced over the next several weeks. Many of the ongoing BEDC projects are collaborative efforts with several local, state, and federal agencies. EMC Strategy Group, LLC, serves as the professional consulting firm, which supports the BEDC and its Executive Committee.
