With only four weeks remaining in the Texas High School regular football season, every game each week counts to determine the District Championship and playoff spots. The Eagle Pass High School Eagles and Eagle Pass C. C. Winn High School Mavericks are no exception as both teams face key District games this week.
The Eagle Pass Eagles will battle the defending District 29-6A Champion Laredo United South Panthers in a critical game on Thursday, October 19th, at 7:30 P.M. at the Laredo United Independent School District Student Activity Complex. The Eagles will have their hands full with the Panthers who are streaking at the height of the season after a slow start, rallying last week in the final minute to defeat the Laredo United Longhorns 18-17 to improve to 2-4 overall in the season and 2-1 in District 29-6A standings.
The Eagles are currently tied with San Antonio Southwest Dragons for first place in District 29-6A standings with a perfect 3-0 mark and 5-1 overall in the season. The Eagles will seek to avenge a loss to the Panthers last year on Thursday, October 19th, at Laredo. The Eagles last week throttled the feisty San Antonio South San Bobcats 43-14 at home.
The Eagles explosive offensive machine will be challenged by the Panthers strong defensive unit while the Eagles wrecking crew defense will have to stop the potent Panthers offense to come out with a win.
All Eagle Pass Eagles football aficionados are encouraged to travel to Laredo this Thursday, October 19th, to cheer and support the Eagles to victory over the Panthers.
Go Eagles Go!
EAGLE PASS WINN MAVERICKS
The Eagle Pass Winn Mavericks similarly have an important District 29-5A game against the San Antonio Southside Cardinals this Friday, October 20th, during 2017 Homecoming Festivities. The Southside Cardinals enter the contest against the Mavericks with a 4-2 overall season record and 1-0 in District 29-5A, while the Mavericks improved to 2-4 overall in the season and 1-0 in District 29-5A standings.
The young Mavericks team is peaking at the right moment after a slow start and will seek to defeat the Cardinals to stay atop the District 29-5A standings and defend their District Co-Championship from last year. The Mavericks stampeding defense will have to stop the potent ground game of the Cardinals to keep them off the scoreboard while the Mavericks explosive offense will have to control possession during the game and score as many points possible to seal a victory over the Cardinals. The Cardinals defeated the Uvalde Coyotes last week 63-42 while the Mavericks stampeded the San Antonio McCollum Cowboys 27-14.
All Maverick Nation aficionados are invited to attend the Mavericks Homecoming football game against the Southside Cardinals this Friday, October 20th, at the Eagle Pass Independent School District Cozel Foster-Veterans Memorial Stadium at 7:30 P.M. and cheer them on to victory.
Go Mavericks Win!
