Maverick County Veteran, Government Officer, and Rancher Albert Clayton Ellis Passes Away

Longtime Maverick County, Texas veteran, government officer, and rancher Albert Clayton Ellis passed away in San Antonio, Texas on October 15, 2017, at the age of 86 years due to natural causes.
Albert Clayton Ellis was the only son of Maximiliano Elguezabal and Isidra Garza and was born in Eagle Pass, Maverick County, Texas on July 3, 1931. He attended Eagle Pass High School and Texas Southost College in Brownsville, Texas, where he played football.
Ellis volunteered into the United States Marine Corps in 1951. During his military service, Ellis rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant and earned numerous sharpshooter awards. He proudly served our country in the Korean War while on active duty as a Marine. After leaving the U.S. Marine Corps, Ellis worked in California and Montana in the oil field industry.
In 1960, Ellis married Diamantina Mireles and together raised two sons, Tom and Richard Ellis, in Los Fresnos and Eagle Pass, Texas. Ellis worked for the Texas Liquor Control Board and the United States Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) as an Immigration Inspector and Supervisor until his retirement in 1992.
Ellis enjoyed raising cattle and horses at his ranch outside Eagle Pass and going hunting with his sons and grandchildren.
Ellis is preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, his parents, and two sisters, Dora Perez and and Romelia Rodriguez.
Ellis is survived by his two sons, Tom (Dorothy) Ellis, and Richard (Carren) Ellis, and five grandchildren: Southern (Courtney) Ellis, Hunter (Caroline) Ellis, Macy Ellis, Anderson Ellis, and Miles Ellis.
Ellis’s nieces, Myrna Olguin, Sandra Perez, and Marylou Betancourt were an integral part of his healthcare in his last years, and the family expresses their genuine appreciation and love for their abundant kindness and loving care.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Yeager Barrera Mortuary, 1613 Del Rio Boulevard, in Eagle Pass, Texas. The Ellis family will greet visitors at Yeager Barrera Mortuary on Saturday, October 23, 2017 from 12 Noon to 5:30 P.M. with a Rosary at 4 P.M. Albert Clayton Ellis will be interred at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas at 9:45 A.M. with full Military Honors.
