Maverick County Candidate Registration Period Opened November 11th and Continues Until December 11th

Maverick County’s candidate registration period for the Texas March 6, 2018 Primary Election opened on November 11, 2017 and will continue until December 11, 2017, announced Luis Alfonso Ruiz, Jr., Interim Chairman of the Maverick County Democratic Party.
Ruiz announced that former Maverick County Judge and current Eagle Pass Independent School District Board of Trustee Rudy Bowles registered on Saturday, November 11th, for Maverick County Judge challenging incumbent County Judge David R. Saucedo.
Maverick County Judge David R. Saucedo formally registered for re-election on Friday, November 17, 2017.
Current Eagle Pass City Councilwoman Gloria E. Hernandez has previously announced her intention to run for Maverick County Judge, causing the City of Eagle Pass to hold a special election for her position on December 16th, has not yet registered for the County Judge post as of press time.
Maverick County Precinct 3 A-B Justice of the Peace David J. Castaneda registered for re-election on Friday, November 11th, seeking another four year term, announced Ruiz.
Eagle Passan Antonio Garcia registered for Maverick County Precinct 4 Justice of the Peace on Tuesday, November 14th. Incumbent Maverick County Justice of the Peace Precinct 4 Tere Melendrez has not registered for re-election. Justice of the Peace Melendrez also serves as an City of Eagle Pass, Texas Assistant Municipal Court Judge.
Eagle Pass attorney and Texas State Representative Alfonso “Poncho” Nevarez, (D-TX 74th District) also registered for re-election in Austin, Texas, seeking a fourth two-year term as State Representative.
Both the 293rd and 365th Judicial District Judge positions are scheduled for election in 2018. 293rd Judicial District Judge Cynthia Muniz has announced that she will not seek re-election while 365th Judicial District Judge Amado J. Abascal, III is expected to seek re-election. No candidates have registered for both District Judicial Judgeships as of press time.
Eagle Pass attorneys Cecilia Mascorro and Maribel Flores have previously announced they will seek election to the 293rd Judicial District Judge position, but neither have registered as of press time. Also rumored as interested in seeking election to the 293rd Judicial District Judge position is current Maverick County Attorney Ricardo Ramos, but he has not registered as of press time.
Maverick County Justice of the Peace Precinct 1 Kina Mancha is expected to register for re-election on Monday, November 20, 2017.
Maverick County Justice of the Peace Precinct 2 Dora Madera is expected to register for re-election in the near future. Former Maverick County Commissioner Asalia Casares is rumored to be interested in challenging Justice of the Peace Dora Madera for the Justice of the Peace Precinct 2 position, but has not registered as of press time despite resigning as Maverick County Democratic Party Chairwoman.
Maverick County Justice of the Peace Precinct 3-C (Quemado) Jeannie Smith is expected to register for re-election in the near future.
