U.S. Border Patrol Agent Dies From Injuries Sustained During Line of Duty, Another Agent Injured

A United States Border Patrol Agent, Rogelio Martinez, age 36, died from injuries sustained on Sunday, November 19, 2017 and another Border Patrol Agent serving with Martinez was injured while on patrol during the line of duty near U.S. Interstate 10 near Van Horn, Texas in the Big Bend Sector.
Agent Martinez’s partner reported that they were both injured and in need of medical assistance. Responding Border Patrol Agents provided medical assistance and transported the two injured agents to a local hospital.
Border Patrol Rogelio Martinez of El Paso, Texas expired from his injuries at the hospital while his partner remains in serious condition at the hospital.
Border Patrol Agents from the Big Bend Sector and Culberson County Sheriff’s Department Officers secured the area. Border Patrol Special Operations Group and CBP Air and Marine are searching the area for potential suspects or witnesses.
CBP has not announced how and from what did Border Patrol Agent Rogelio Martinez died from other than injuries sustained while on patrol with his partner.
Culberson County Sheriff’s Department, FBI, CBP Office of Inspector General, and the CBP Professional Responsibility are investigating the tragic incident.
President Donald Trump was quick to politicize Border Patrol Agent’s tragic death while serving the United States by tweeting the need to build and construct a Border Wall along the United States-Mexico border and vowing to bring to justice the persons responsible for Agent Martinez’s death and his partner’s injuries.
CBP has not announced the name of the injured Border Patrol Agent who was Agent Martinez’s partner during the incident.
