Maverick County Democratic Party Chairman Luis Alfonso Ruiz Press Conference on May 18, 2018

(PRESS RELEASE) My name is Luis Alfonso Ruiz. I’m the Chairman of the Maverick County Democratic Party.

I have received information about an allegation of irregularity in the electoral process that Mrs. Enriqueta Diaz made public through Facebook. No member of the Maverick County Democratic Committee received any information about this incident before Ms. Diaz spread it on Facebook.

This incident has already been reported to the appropriate and competent agencies to proceed with what is alleged.

I have been informed that the policy of the law enforcement officials is to investigate all complaints received.

At the moment they are investigating the process that is followed for the storage and handling of the electoral ballots in the current election and reviewing the evidence they have received.

In addition, I was informed that the policy of law enforcement officials it to not be involved in political dealings during elections.

We remind all citizens and voters that if someone has a complaint, such as inappropriate activities, they should report them directly to the Texas Secretary of State office. After reporting your complaint, the correct process is to remain silent until the appropriate investigations are made by each department to avoid falling into the legal error of giving information that has not been properly investigated and corroborated. Thereby, maintain the integrity of the processes that give results based on all the evidence.

Unfortunately, in this incident disseminated by Ms. Diaz, the correct steps to file a complaint, incident, or report of inappropriate action were not followed and she made known as fact something that has not been corroborated.

This can cause detrimental interference in the legal process and taint information that is disseminated where the persons involved have not been investigated with impartiality.

Apart from Texas Secretary of State, to which any voter can present their complaints, also we as the Local Democratic Party, who is in charge of the elections are at your disposal to assist you in everything we can.

As Chairman of the Democratic Party of this County, I take the integrity of the elections with all seriousness and dignity that this process deserves.

If there are complaints of irregularities in the process, they should be done with the dignity and respect that the voters deserve; following all the options that are within the law. Trying to disseminate information that attacks this valuable process without having given an opportunity to the appropriate authorities, can be seen as an attempt to force public opinion without evidence.
