All Maverick County and surrounding area Veterans and their families are invited to attend the the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War Commemorative Ceremony on September 24th at 6 P.M., said Ruben R. Salazar, VFW Post 8562 member and a former Vietnam War Combat Veteran with the U.S. Army Special Forces.
President Barack Obama proclaimed on May 25, 2012 the dates of May 28, 2012 through November 11, 2025 as the dates to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War.
Salazar stated that “This is the time to reflect with solemn reverence upon the valor of a generation that served with honor and to pay tribute to more than three (3) million servicemen and women who left their families to serve bravely, a world away from everything they knew and everyone they loved. These servicemen and women fought heroically to protect the ideals we hold dear as Americans. Through more than a decade of combat over air, land, and sea, these proud Americans upheld the highest traditions of the U.S. Armed Forces.”
Salazar added that “By commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War, we honor the more than 58,000 Patriots whose names are etched in black granite on the Vietnam War Memorial Wall in Washington, D.C.. We also pay tribute to the more than 1,600 service members who are missing in action in the Vietnam War.”
Salazar concluded stating that “No words will ever be fully worthy of their service, nor any honor truly befitting their sacrifice, let us remember that it is never too late to pay tribute to the men and women who answered the call of duty with courage and valor. Throughout this commemoration, let us show our Vietnam War Veterans and their families, and who have served, the fullest respect and support which they so richly deserve.”
The event is open to the public and admission is free. All Maverick County and surrounding area Veterans are cordially invited to attend this commemorative event.
