Eagle Pass Eagles Shut Out Del Rio Rams 41-0 during Homecoming Festivities

The mighty Eagle Pass High School Eagles shut out arch-rival Del Rio High School Rams 41-0 in a key District 29-6A football game on Friday, November 9, 2018 during Homecoming festivities at the Eagle Pass Independent School District Cozel Foster-Veterans Memorial Stadium in Eagle Pass, Texas.
With the win over Del Rio, the Eagle Pass Eagles finished the regular season 8-2 overall and 4-2 in District 29-6A standings with a third-place finish in District, qualifying for the 2018 post-season playoffs against the Pharr San Juan Alamo High School Bears next Friday, November 16th, at Pharr San Juan Alamo, Texas in the Rio Grande Valley.
The Eagles self-proclaimed War Eagle offense under the helm of quarterback Ritchie Luna fired on all cylinders against the Del Rio Rams defense throughout the game while the Eagles Land Shark defense dominated the Rams potent offense.
The Eagles took the opening possesion of the game at their 25 yard line and engineered a perfect five play, 75 yard touchdown drive, culminating on a 55 yard touchdown strike from quarterback Ritchie Luna to wide receiver Rey Mendoza and the point after attempt by Place Kicker Eric Ramirez was good to take an early 7-0 lead with 10 minutes remaining in the first quarter.
The Eagles defense shut down the Rams offense on their first possesion in the game, forcing the Rams to punt.
The Eagles took their second possession of the game and quickly scored on a eight yard touchdown keeper by quarterback Ritchie Luna and the point after attempt by Eric Ramirez was good to extend the Eagles lead over the Rams 14-0 with 3:24 minutes remaining in the first quarter.
Early in the second quarter, the Eagles explosive offense struck again with a 42 yard touchdown pass from quarterback Ritchie Luna to wide receiver Oscar Castillon and Eric Ramirez added the extra point to enlarge the Eagles lead over the Rams 21-0 with 10:08 minutes remaining in the second stanza.
After another outstanding Eagles defensive stop of the Rams, the Eagles struck again quickly on another Ritchie Luna to Oscar Castillon aerial touchdown pass for 32 yards and Eric Ramirez added the point after attempt to extend the Eagles lead 28-0 over the Rams with 7:56 minutes left in the second quarter.
The Eagles tallied one additional touchdown before halftime to take a commanding 35-0 lead during the 2018 Homecoming Game.
In the second half, the Eagles coaching staff primarily played the reserve players so that they can gain valuable experience in preparation for the playoffs next week, managing to score one additional touchdown against the Rams to close out the scoring 41-0 in earning the District 29-6A victory and third-place in District.
