Karla Huerta Named EPISD Teacher of the Month for February 2019
Eagle Pass Independent School District has partnered with local businesses throughout our city to highlight the Teacher of the Month program, which honors educators who have made a difference in our community. The program recognizes outstanding kindergarten, elementary, junior high, and high school teachers in Eagle Pass, Texas.
February’s Teacher of the Month is none other than Ray Darr Elementary School’s, Mrs. Karla Huerta. Mrs. Huerta has been with EPISD for 15 years and has touched the lives of 1st and 3rd graders alike. Throughout her tenure with district, she has been an outstanding teacher and role model.
Mrs. Huerta is a true professional and seeks to grow as an educator every chance she gets. She implements only the most effective research based practices into her lessons that will challenge and inspire her students. With the use of present-day technology resources, Mrs. Huerta makes an impact on the quality of learning her students receive. She makes sure that they are outfitted with the best concepts and skills. She establishes high expectations for her students and encourages every one of them to work at their best level. She strives to make learning fun and engaging. Her open communication with students, parents, and colleagues is one of her key techniques to improve scores for her campus.
As grade level chair, she displays leadership skills by creating strong professional working relationships that promote positive feedback and collaboration. This is evident as she has been a member of the SBDM Committee and a UIL Coach for several years. Mrs. Huerta collaborates with her peers and is always quick to share new information about curriculum and instructional activities. Her willingness to share makes her the perfect model for a student teacher. In fact, she has one this semester and through her great expertise; she is guiding her to become strong and capable!
For all these reasons and more, Mrs. Huerta is Teacher of the Month.
A segment will appear on iVision throughout the month of January detailing many more accomplishments of Mrs. Huerta. This month she will also appear on community media, news publications and the EPISD website throughout February 2019. A teacher will be selected each month through May 2019 for a total of eight (8) honorees. The “Teacher of the Month” will be chosen based on educational achievements in the classroom, community contributions and innovative programs and techniques used by the teacher. The “Teacher of the Month” will receive a certificate of recognition and will be featured on iVision, local media news, news publications and radio broadcasting. Additionally, each “Teacher of the Month” will receive donations from local businesses.
