The Eagle Pass High School Eagles football teams from freshmen to varsity level have been practicing for the 2019 season since August 5, 2019 and are finally beginning to ready themselves with live scrimmages before the start of the season on August 29, 2019 when they play the Uvalde High School Coyotes at home.
The Eagles held an Orange and White scrimmage among themselves last week and faced the Somerset High School Bulldogs in a controlled scrimmage on August 15th. The Eagles did well against the Somerset Bulldogs, winning the scrimmage by 4 to 2 (touchdowns).
Eagles Head Football Coach Tom Gonzalez and his staff are closely evaluating their players during these scrimmages to determine which players are best suited for which positions on offense and defense.
The Eagles will play their third and final scrimmage on Thursday, August 22nd, against the Laredo Martin High School Tigers at 7 P.M. at Shirley Field in Laredo, Texas.
The Eagles kick-off their 2019 regular season next week against the Uvalde Coyotes on Thursday, August 29th, at home at 7 P.M. in a non-district game for both teams.
The Eagles are counting on quarterback Allan Rodriguez to spark the Offense together with the talented running back tandem of Jose Hernandez and Saul Perales and wide receivers Jacob Ruiz and Armando De Los Santos.
On defense, the Eagles will call upon defensive ends Charlie Schuessler and MJ McGehee to anchor the defensive line and assisted by linebackers Jacob Salinas, Joe Samaniego, defensive tackle Andres Conde, and defensive backs Kristian Barcena, Eric Heredia, Juan Guerra, and Marco Torres.
The Eagles will seek to have an outstanding season and make the state playoffs with a core group of experienced returning lettermen and young players stepping up to the varsity level.
All Eagle Nation fans are encouraged to attend and support the Eagles during the 2019 football season. Go Eagles Baby!
