Grupo Modelo’s Mega Brewery Plant Now Open in Nava, Coahuila, Mexico
Grupo Modelo’s Companía Cervecera Coahuila, S.A. general manager, Ingeniero Abel Loza, announced that the world’s most automated beer brewery and bottling plant, located in Nava, Coahuila, Mexico, opened in May of 2010 with production of Mexico’s world-famous Corona and Corona Light beer at the 2010 Future of the Region Conference held on Thursday, October 21, 2010, in Eagle Pass, Texas.
Loza presented Future of the Region conference attendees a Powerpoint presentation highlighting the site selection criteria of the Nava, Coahuila site, the planning and development of the mega brewery plant since 2006, and the current and future production capacity of the plant.
Loza stated that the Corona beer brewery plant is currently operating at 40% of expected production capacity with 600 employees. He added that the Grupo Modelo plant is currently exporting daily to the United States 40 to 45 railroad cars and 15 to 20 trailers of Corona beer. He predicted the mega plant will reach maximum production capacity in May of 2011 with up to 1,300 employees, exporting 90 to 100 railroad cars and 40 to 45 trailers daily through Eagle Pass. The total cost to develop and construct the mega brewery is $600 million, said Loza.
Grupo Modelo selected the Nava, Coahuila site for its new mega brewery for many reasons, including its proximity to the United States market (14 kilometers from the U.S.-Mexico border), the availability of a workforce, excellent transportation infrastructure, availability of quality water, outstanding support from the State of Coahuila and its Governor Humberto Moreira, and the excellent relationship and cooperation between the Cities of Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico and Eagle Pass, Texas.
The development and opening of Grupo Modelo’s mega brewery plant in Nava, Coahuila, Mexico is expected to stimulate the economies of the States of Coahuila and Texas, particularly the cities of Piedras Negras, Coahuila and Eagle Pass, Texas.
