McDonald’s to open second restaurant on S. Veterans Blvd.
Eagle Pass McDonald’s restaurant franchise owner Frank Mendoza in an exclusive interview with the Eagle Pass Business Journal announced plans to commence construction in July of 2011 of the long-awaited second McDonald’s Restaurant on the south-side of Eagle Pass on a property located on South Veterans Blvd., adjacent to the Church’s Chicken and across the street from the Peter Rabbit Shell gasoline station and convenience store.
According to Mendoza, the new McDonald’s Restaurant will be a full-size restaurant with seating for 144 persons, 64 parking spaces, and a children’s playground.
Accompanied by his daughter, Elena Mendoza-Pacheco, and son, Frank Mendoza, Jr., Mendoza stated that Eagle pass has been very supportive and appreciative of his first McDonald’s Restaurant in Eagle Pass. He added that the new location on South Veteran’s Boulevard is highly developed and ready to support the second McDonald’s franchise restaurant in Eagle Pass.
Mendoza began his McDonald’s Restaurant franchise business in August of 1972. Since 1972, Mendoza and his family have successfully opened 12 McDonald’s franchises throughout southwest Texas, often in small rural communities.
“We’re excited about Eagle Pass’ growth and its potential to continue growing in the future,” Mendoza said. “Although the City of Del Rio has a larger population than the City of Eagle Pass, Maverick County is larger than Val Verde County,” Mendoza added. “Eagle Pass is very fortunate to have Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico and northern Coahuila residents shop in and travel through Piedras Negras-Eagle Pass,” Mendoza said.
“As a matter of fact, we are looking at a possible third-site on the north-side of Eagle Pass in the future. If Eagle Pass continues to grow as it is, it should be able to support five to six McDonald’s restaurants in the future,” Mendoza said.
Interviewed at the Carrizo Springs, Texas McDonald’s Restaurant, Mendoza stated he is renovating and expanding his Carrizo Springs franchise to accommodate and service the business and population boom Carrizo Springs and the Wintergarden Area are experiencing due to the Eagle Ford Shale oil and gas exploration boom.
He was meeting with contractors, equipment manufacturers, and interior decorators to finalize the renovation and expansion of the Carrizo Springs McDonald’s Restaurant.
Mendoza is supported by his family and is training his children to succeed him in the future. He credits having the best managers and employees in Texas and within McDonald’s. His wife, Martha Mendoza, has been with him since August 1972. His son, Frank Mendoza, Jr. has become a McDonald’s certified operator while his daughter, Elena Mendoza-Pacheco, is currently undergoing the rigorous two-year McDonald’s certified operator program. He is also assisted by his son-in-law, Manuel Pacheco, who is an attorney and handles legal matters.
