Martinez Kajukempo Academy Builds Stamina and Strength
If you ask any male if they know what the UFC and MMA stand for, their eyes light up in a frenzy driven by the human nature of competition. It’s in our blood to be competitive in life and in sports although the art of hand to hand unarmed combat has been part of humanity for thousands of years. Mixed martial arts can be tracked to the ancient Olympic sport of Pankration but it is in the early 1920’s where it began to take form as we know it today as MMA.
The combat sport of “Vale Todo” that was developed in the 1920’s in Brazil and was brought to the United States by the Gracie family. “ synonomus” to the sport of mixed martial arts. As the years have passed, the blood, sweat, and tears of many athletes who have competed in the octogan cage have paved a road for the sport we know today. The sport of MMA has evolved from its beginnings of brutalistic competition. Many rules and regulations have been implemented for the safety of their athletes and in order to appeal to a wider based audience, and to meet many requirements to be sanctioned throughout the United States and the world.
It is with such adaptations and implementations that has put the UFC, a United States based company, at the top of the combat sports world. Throughout the U.S there are main professional leagues as well as MMA amateur organizations. The Martinez Kajukembo Academy located at 244 Eidson Road in Eagle Pass, Tx in preparing a group of local young men for an upcoming amateur tournament in Livingston, Tx, on Saturday October the 15th, where five members of Team Martinez will be taking center stage and compete. The members are Eric Martinez, who is ranked number two in the heavyweight division and will be fighting for the heavy weight championship in the main event. “I’ve been looking forward to this opportunity for quite some time and will leave it all in the cage and hopefully become the heavy weight champion, it would help the Martinez team be recognized as a force to be reckoned with all across Texas. And being champion of our league will help me along in my quest of turning pro.” Martinez said. “It’s not just about getting in the octogan cage and fighting, trainer and fighter Paulo Alcozer says’, it’s about the dedication and discipline in training to be at your best physically as well as in mind and spirit, there is no greater feeling.’ Paulo said.
I met up with Team Martinez a few days later, to get the results of their fights. Paolo won his fight by decision taking the battle to his opponent and at the end, the judges awarded him the victory by decision. Justin Salinas, who competed in the 135lb division, scored a victory for his team defeating his opponent by unanimous decision, while Carlos Hernandez lost his battle by TKO, and Francisco Mauricio, who fights in the 190lb division came out on top with a victory by TKO. Eric Martinez bid for a heavy-weight championship was not to be , after a well fought battle against his opponent, Eric lost his respective fight by TKO, Juan Martinez adds, we had a good showing, the guys are back in the gym training , they have it in them to never give up and they will train and learn from their mistakes this past weekend, Martinez adds, “f anybody is interested in joining us, I welcome them to stop by and visit with us and learn more about the mixed martial art known as Kajukembo which has its origins in the 1940s, in which we focus on five different styles and techniques including karate, judo, Ju jitsu, kempo, and boxing.
