In Memory of Dr. Ted W. Soret
Longtime Eagle Pass dentist, philanthropist, and community public servant, Dr. Ted W. Soret, age 76, passed away on Saturday, October 29, 2011, in San Antonio, Texas.
Dr. Soret is survived by his wife, Mary Francis Soret, and three children, Ted Soret, Jr., Nick Soret, and Kathleen Soret, as well as one grandchild, Stephen Garrett, and one brother, Shelton Soret and his wife, Phyllis Soret of Devine, Texas.
He was born on October 10, 1935, to E.O. (Barney) Soret and Lois Soret.
Dr. Soret practiced dentistry in Eagle Pass for 51 years. He opened his dental practice in Eagle Pass in 1960. He was the only dentist in Eagle Pass for approximately 15 years.
Dr. Soret received his doctorate degree in Dentistry from the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, Texas in 1960. He also attended Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska and the University of Texas at Austin.
Dr. Soret served as Chief of Staff for the Maverick County Hospital District in Eagle Pass in 1983 and held consulting hospital privileges at the Maverick County Hospital and the Fort Duncan Regional Medical Center for many years.
Dr. Soret was an active community volunteer and public servant serving as a Board of Director of United Medical Centers, Inc. (UMC) for 28 years of which he was President of the UMC Board of Directors for 27 years. UMC’s Chief Executive Officer George Kypuros stated Dr. Soret’s death is a great loss to the community and the United Medical Centers family in Eagle Pass, Del Rio, and Brackettville. Kypuros credits Dr. Soret’s leadership and vision as President of the United Medical Centers’ Board of Directors for the past 27 years for the significant growth and expansion of UMC to the Tri-County region of Maverick, Val Verde, and Kinney Counties.
Dr. Soret also served on many local community organizations and board of directors.
Dr. Soret received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Eagle Pass Business Journal Awards for his extraordinary professional and volunteer contributions to the communities of Eagle Pas and Maverick County, Texas.
The Eagle Pass Business Journal extends its deepest sympathy to the Soret and United Medical Centers families.
Dr. Soret passed on to be with the Lord and his body was cremated. A memorial service in memory of Dr. Ted W. Soret will be held at the Redeemer Episcopal Church in Eagle Pass in the near future. The date and time will be announced in the future.
